If you're over the age
If you're over the age of five, you're already aware that sometimes things don't work out as planned. Or as Ron Jordan sums it up so elequantly in Ketchup Packet Bear, "In retrospect, I should have 1) attacked the bear with a razor blade OR 2) turned off the halogen light."

As long as I'm swiping
As long as I'm swiping good links from MetaFilter for my own later consumption, there's also The Non-Verbal Dictionary of Gestures, Signs and Body Language Cues. Wonderful insights such as "Visually, high heels suggest that a woman's feet are delicate, submissive, and ethereal, i.e., destabilized--not planted firmly on the ground ". And further on the footwear topic, "Fashion trainer John Molloy found that women consider men in cowboy boots more attractive than men in ordinary shoes.". Maybe John Molloy lives in Texas...

Just marking this one down
Just marking this one down for future reference. This website is after all just an extension of my brain, like disk space. Online Audio Recordings: UC Berkeley Lectures and Events (including materials from the UCB Language Center Speech Archives). There are several here I really want to listen to, like Umberto Eco: From Aristotle to Sherlock Holmes, October 13, 1982 and Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer: On Atomic Energy, Problems to Civilization, Nov. 6, 1946. Hours and hours of mind-expanding entertainment.

I'm Stick Figure Warning-Man, and my follies are meant to serve as a cautionary tale. Look upon my works and weep.

Alban-Werthenheimer Orthopaedic Surgery. This is
Alban-Werthenheimer Orthopaedic Surgery. This is so bad it's funny. Matt Haughey over at MetaFilter posted this one, and it's got to go down in the recordbooks as one of the worst commercial web sites ever. Just watch the intro, and try to imagine letting these people operate on you.

Finally, the scientific breakthrough moms
Finally, the scientific breakthrough moms everywhere have been waiting for. Want to get ahead of the curve on making the sandwich lunches for the kiddos? These babies stay fresh up to 3 years.

Oddpost has been making the
Oddpost has been making the rounds. If you're tired of your lameass Hotmail or Yahoo mail client, this one rocks the house. Unfortunately, it ain't free. $30 a year though, isn't too bad. Free yourself from the tyranny of Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, access your mail from the web -- anywhere, anytime -- but keep the same look and feel as Outlook (even drag and drop to folders capability!) in a browser-based client. Great text on the site. Example from the FAQ:
Q: "Why would I pay for email when Hotmail and Yahoo Mail are free?"
A: "Why doesn’t everyone drive a Hyundai?"

Take two Jewish Russion mathematicians
Take two Jewish Russion mathematicians with a supercomputer in their apartment, and it's bound to get a little strange. Behold the Chudnovsky brothers. "...it seemed a little closer now. It was a slight sign of order -- a possible sign -- and it had to do with the running average of the digits. You can take an average of any string of digits in pi. It is like getting a batting average, an average height, an average weight. The average of the digits in pi should be 4.5. That's the average of the decimal digits zero through nine. The brothers noticed that the average seems to be slightly skewed. It stays a little high through most of the first billion digits, and then it stays a little low through the next billion digits..." Next time you're cruising through
Next time you're cruising through Burnsville, Minnesota -- or Dodgeville, Wisconsin, or any of several other equally evocative and alluring locales -- be sure to get a FantaSuite room for the night. This is... well... so far beyond tacky... I'm at a loss to describe it. You just have to go see for yourself. Although I'll admit that the Lover's Leap theme, complete with the 1973 Oldsmobile Delta '88 Royale convertible parked in your room, is somewhat tempting.

If you're one of the
If you're one of the many unfortunates who's gone through a divorce, or even a breakup with a longtime partner, you'll be relieved to know that ExSO (as in "significant other") is there for you. Of course, it's there for him - or her - as well. But hey, you saw it first. Post an editorial review of your ex, and rate their humor, personality, looks, intelligence and so on. Post commentary, which they can then protest. Send an ExSOcard, ranging from the mushy "souls will always touch" to "if you were stranded, I wouldn't even bother to wave."
